A Free Way to Check If Your Site is Ready for AI Visibility

A free way to check if your site is ready for AI visibility. We launched a set of free tools to test this, without needing to create an account, just with your company email.

Free tools for testing AI visibility readiness

We launched a set of free tools to test exactly that, without needing to create an account, just with your company email. I wanted to explain what each tool does and why I separated them into different blocks.

SEO, AEO, AIO, and GEO Are Not the Same Thing

Before discussing the tools, it's worth distinguishing the four terms, as they can easily be confused. SEO focuses on the discovery, indexing, and performance of your pages in traditional search engines. AEO works on the structure of information for mechanisms that directly answer a question, like a featured snippet. AIO looks at the technical accessibility of the site for AI crawlers and the content that reaches them in HTML. GEO focuses on the presence of your brand, product, and source within the response generated by the AI.

The Tools That Test This

There are crawlers and robots.txt checkers to see if AI bots can even access the site. There's a rendering checker that looks at what exists in the HTML before JavaScript runs, because many AIs do not wait for the page to load as a visitor would expect. There are noindex and sitemap checkers, canonical and heading checkers, which are the basics that have always mattered and sometimes get forgotten. There are structured data checkers and Q&A format page checkers, which help make the information structure easier to use. There's also a llms.txt checker, the newest file that tells the AI what it can read. And there’s a citation signal checker, like date, author, and publisher, which helps the AI trust a source.

The order I recommend following is this: first crawler and robots.txt, then rendering, then noindex and sitemap, then canonical and heading, then structured data, then question and FAQ, then llms.txt and related files, and only at the end citation signals. This order makes sense because it’s pointless to get to the end if the bot can’t even enter at the beginning.

What This Doesn’t Answer

Here’s the most important point of this entire text: passing all these tests shows that the site is technically prepared, but it doesn’t conclude this from the technical tests. They find preparation issues, but they don’t answer a different question, which is: when someone asks about your market, does your brand appear? This answer only comes from truly monitoring, with prompts tested regularly, across multiple AIs at the same time, which is what we call AI Visibility.

How to Use This in Practice

Testing these tools first is a good starting point, as it fixes what’s blocking before anything else. But if the question you want to answer is whether your brand is already being cited, that is a separate, ongoing task that we do at MencionAI.

If you want to test your site for free, just use the free tools for GEO, AEO, and SEO. If you want to see how your brand is actually appearing in AI responses, just schedule a demo.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to create an account to use the free tools? No. Just the company email, no account and no credit card required.

Does passing all the tests guarantee that my brand will appear in AI responses? No. The tests show that the site is technically prepared. Knowing if the brand is truly cited requires monitoring prompts regularly, which MencionAI calls AI Visibility.

What’s the difference between AEO, AIO, and GEO? AEO works on the structure of information for mechanisms that directly answer a question. AIO looks at the technical accessibility of the site for AI crawlers. GEO focuses on the brand's presence within the response generated by the AI.

Where should I start the tests? In the recommended order in the text: crawler and robots.txt first, then rendering, noindex and sitemap, canonical and heading, structured data, question and FAQ, llms.txt, and finally, citation signals.
